Gardiners assist in canal emergency

Gardiners were called upon to help remove a capsized narrow boat which had partly sunk and was blocking Lock 11 on the busy Kennet and Avon Canal near Bath.

Initially it looked like a large drainage and fish rescue operation would be needed but by using our experience of working on canals, together with carefully liasing with other experts, the boat was righted with a winch and the section of canal is due to reopen today (21st March).

From the Site Manager to our Contracts Manager:

Just wanted to thank you and the teams effort yesterday at Bath in removing the boat from the lock chamber. All in all a good job, everyone’s patience was tested a little at times and the teams resolve when confronted with the many issues before us was excellent. Could not have asked for more but I am confident that if it was needed it would have been done.

Our clients formal response was

“The response was swift and the works and the site in general were very impressively set up and managed, with great attention to detail and safety, especially bearing in mind the limited time to prepare and deliver the work and with a very keen public presence.”

Once again, many thanks for a good job done !
