New access road around Whitacre Intake Reservoir

Gardiners were contracted to construct a new stone access road around part of the reservoir at Whitacre Water Treatment Works. We started on site by removing the vegetation and soil to the existing road and then digging out a trench to lay new concrete kerbs and edgings, these kerbs and edgings were set on a concrete base and backed up with more concrete to secure them in place (chambers and chamber covers re-set to new levels). New stone was built up in two levels using larger 75mm stone for the sub-base and then a smaller MOT type 50mm, down to dust stone, used as a topping to bind the road together. The road was compacted in levels using road rollers.
